Hi Sam,

This should get updated in the next week or so. I usually try to update the PA map once a month, but sometimes other projects get in the way of that schedule. Thanks for your interest.

Matt

It is almost two months old and I know of several places that drilling has taken place since the first of the year that isn’t on your map.

That depends on where you live, because these laws vary by state.

There are quite a few ways to obtain these numbers, actually. A quick look at our most recent PA Shale Map shows that as of October 22, 2013 there were 7,217 spudded wells (drilled) and a total of 14,773 permit actions from 12,903 proposed and drilled unconventional wells. That map will occasionally be updated on the PA Landing Page.

Alternatively, you can obtain the most up to date data on the number of wells drilled and permitted in PA through the PA DEP website. On this page, click the Well Permit Workload Report (PDF) link for a summary report. That link is updated often by the PA DEP.

These were round figures that I think I have read somewhere, but is there somewhere on this site that has the latest data on producing wells and wells permitted but not yet producing?
