Thanks for your input on mineral rights, Tom. This is actually very common throughout the west, and fairly common in the east as well. I’ve been told that in some states, about 85 percent of the land is considered to be a “split estate”, where the land owner does not own the mineral rights, so this is a much broader issue than former railroad lands.

My wife’s G. Grandparents obtained some of this land in Adams Co., WA & it was very plainly stated that the RR retained ALL MINERAL RIGHTS to this land! I don’t know if your land was ever owned by a land grant RR or if so it was with the retention of mineral but it is definite
ly where I would start my search. Good Luck!

Unfortunately, I think the only way to find this out is to talk to the county. They may be able to help you without going there in person, though.

I asked the land man and he refused to ell me saying that because there are some conflicts as to who may or may nit have sold the land of which we were supposed to all be heirs too. Because of possible legal actions in the future, I would just as soon not mention a land description or names. There are a total of about nine sections of and involved in the dispute. My efforts at this time is to discover who is paying the property taxes on the land and ten I will be going from there.
Any information which you can provide me would be very much appreciated. i live in Central Minnesota and finances are tight so if I can find the information here o the internet, I would rather that than have to make the trip out to Mountrail County.
Thank you,
Chip

Dan,

Unfortunately, there is no “export as KML” functionality available at this time. However, you can download statewide files directly from the North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources. Their best download section is available from their map viewer. These files are in shapefile format.

Thanks,
